Firmam3nt are a prog metal / post metal band from Spain. The band have issued their self titled 4 track album and it’s full of big riffs and strong melodies. There’s a lot to like about Firmam3nt. They are all great musicians. They are very tight. They write great songs.
So what’s the issue? The album needs to be bigger sounding. Now I know indie bands have a limited budget and I am not saying the album sounds like some bad demo. Far from it! I just wish it sounded more epic. These riffs deserve to be FUCKING HUGE sounding. The bar for this music has been set by the band Tempel, in my opinion. If you are going to get into this genre, you better go big or go home!
The lead track “North” is the perfect example. It’s almost 15 minutes long and it has everything you want from a big ass, post metal riff-fest…except no real “thickness” to the riffs. We need more meat on the bones! Same can be said for the other tracks. The self titled album by Firmam3nt shows great promise. They are yet another great, young band from Spain to keep an eye on!
