I’ll get this out of the way. I love Cult of Luna. The key with them is patience. They do things when they want and there’s no telling when they might enter hibernation again. Given that, I was super excited to get another new track from this great band.
The track is a cover of an Amebix song called “Last Will And Testament” which I’ve never heard before. The bottom line for me is that is sounds like an original. It has all of the things that I love about Cult of Luna. It’s massive, epic, atmospheric and heavy as fuck. The final two tracks on this EP are by The Old Wind, a band made up of members of The Ocean and Breach.
The two tracks by The Old Wind remind me of the heavier, more brutal and abrasive side of The Ocean. I am not normally keen on split EPs but these two bands are a natural fit for each other. The title of the EP is “Råångest” which means “raw anxiety” in Swedish. There couldn’t be a better title for it!
Fans of Cult of Luna should definitely enjoy this, not only because of the song by that band but also because The Old Wind will be right up your alley stylistically. It certainly was for me. I just hope that “Råångest” isn’t the last we hear from Cult of Luna for a while!
